For those of us in FL-12, though I don't think there are many who read this blog, it's really, really important to get out, vote, and vote for Doug Tudor.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had enough of Adam Putnam (aka Bush's yes man in the House). He is utterly unresponsive to his constituency and has no interest in representing EVERYONE in his district.
Two years ago, the Democrats abandoned this seat and let Putnam have it.
Now, we have Doug Tudor. He's new; he's relatively inexperienced, but I'm okay with that. It's not like Putnam was brimming with experience when he entered the House.
We need a change and we need someone who is willing to represent ALL of the people in our district, not just some of the people in our district.
So, if you're in FL-12, go read more about Tudor (www.teamtudor.org) and please consider voting for him on election day.
If you're not in FL-12, but know people who are, make phone calls, send emails, whatever and ask them to vote for Tudor.
Thanks.
I really wish there was more I could do, but the whole big as a house, limited ability to do anything at this point means the most I can do is write blog posts, send money, and, well, pretty much beg people to vote for him.

Today is Dale Jarrett's last race.
I may not have been his biggest fan, but it is still sad to see him go.
Thanks for all the great races, Dale!

My baby boy is two years old today. He has made what amounts to an evolutionary leap in the last two weeks and is now acting more like a little boy and less like a baby. He seems to suddenly have somewhat better control of his emotions (though I wonder if that's because he just got back from spending several days with my sister, maybe he's afraid we'll give him away again, sigh).
I can't believe that it's been two years since he was born. It seems like yesterday and today he's hugging me and saying an approximation of love you. He has a lot more words now and he's got some two word phrases. He is supremely confident with the girls. He was about to walk in between them when they were "disagreeing" over who should have the ball. He changed his mind, but you could see he was clearly considering his actions carefully.
He started sitting on the potty a couple of times a day, but more as a distraction from naps than for actual function. However, he's not afraid of it and I consider that a plus. He has a fantastic personality and is just sunny and happy (unless he doesn't get those naps he keeps trying to distract me from). Left up to him, he wouldn't take them, but I insist on a couple of rest periods during the day and darned if he doesn't fall asleep during each one :).
The only vaguely worrisome thing is that he doesn't eat fruit and the only vegetables are potatoes and peas. Eh, children have survived on less. He's probably drinking too much milk, but we'll see what Dr. T says next week.
Overall, he's a great kid and we're so very, very lucky.

I'm sitting here in my office and I catch another wiff of that smell -- the bad ear smell.
Can't be Peyton she's got enough medicine in her ears to kill a horse. So, I get Sam to sit and check her ears. One is definitely infected -- I know the sight and the smell of it. The other isn't yet, I don't think.
So goody, Sam lasted less than a month as a healthy dog, and I guess I've got to take another dog in to see Dr. K. Lovely.

So, yesterday I went to the neurologist. Nice guy; nice office, overall it wasn't a horrible experience. What we're doing: I have a nifty new splint that I am supposed to wear as much as humanly possible without impeding function. He suggested anything involving water, it can come off. I am taking prednisone for the next six days and then 800 mg of Motrin three times a day until I see him again on the second of August. Although, I have to go in for a nerve conduction study on the 26th of July.
Basically, he's not sure what it is. But he hopes that its just a severe case of tendinitis that a ludicrous amount of rest will cure. One of the things that I'm trying to do is make more use of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, so that I'm not typing with it all the time. Unfortunately, I can't write this way, meaning I can't dictate fiction, it just doesn't work. Grading with Dragon can be tricky, but with a little patience and persistence I can do it. There's nothing like being forced to put the technology you've purchased to use.
And yes, for the worriers, I'm dictating this. And no, I'm still not off the cloud from earlier.

Oh man, this was funny.
B has outgrown his shoes almost. And he's in a major won't wear socks and shoes phase. He only wants sandals -- hey, I can relate, it's Florida and almost July. Sandals are a wonderful thing.
So, I ordered him his first pair of See Kai Run sandals. By the way, if you have a young one (wearing up to toddler size 9) these are awesome shoes. A soft, flexible sole and extremely comfortable -- if B's reaction to them is to be believed.
Anyway, they came while he was taking his nap. When he woke up, I let the shoes come in first around the door, and then I came in.
He sat down in the crib and started trying to tug his current Robeez sandals off his feet as soon as he saw the new shoes. I took his old shoes off and put his new sandals on. He couldn't stop looking at them. As soon as he was on the floor, he was running around and showing off his new shoes to Daddy (Daaay) and to Peyton (Boo).
The moral of this story -- the kid appreciates good shoes. And since his doctor wants me to keep him in soft soled shoes as long as possible, we're sure to be buying at least a few more pairs (until he graduates from Toddler 9).
